MFX: MFXtra: The Scottish Announce Table – Ep 9.
Duckman and George ‘The Animal’ Peel are back to bring you news and show reviews in the weird world of pro wrestling. It’s a pro wrestling podcast, with a decidedly Scottish flavour. On the show this week…
The lads are old enough to remember WWF’s In Your House PPVs, so they do have some fun with NXT Takeover In Your House. The lads do a deep dive on the show, reviewing all the matches and finishes. There was some fun matches, some absolute trash and the feeling that NXT isn’t the hip, hot brand it was a year ago is pretty strong. The overly scripted commentary and the completely fake ‘game show audience’ reactions don’t improve things. A decidedly average Takeover, which is still a good show, but nowhere near the quality of Takeovers of the past. It’s a fun review though, plenty of laughs are had.
The lads discuss some news stories of the past couple of weeks, including the great news that New Japan is coming back with live shows, WWE’s laughably fake corporate response to the BLM movement, there’s some fun to be had with Randy Orton v Tomasso Ciampa’s Twitter feud. The lads discuss WWE’s decision to do the 300th version of Jeff Hardy is an addict storyline, and they cover the Drake Maverick is he/isn’t he fired angle. There’s a decidedly underwhelming preview of WWE Backlash, there really is nothing of interest happening on this show. Plus there’s a quick run down of the upcoming AEW Fyter Fest show and how the card is shaping up.
The show is wrapped up as always with the Random Retro PPV Review. This week it’s Starcade 1987 – a real mixed bag of a show. We’ve got SO MANY ARMBARS. We’ve got terrible finishes. We’ve got a terrifying scaffold match. We’ve got RON GARVIN as NWA World Champion (WTF?), plus one of the GREATEST babyface promos of all time from Jimmy Garvin and one of the most bizarre promos of all time by Nikita Koloff. It wasn’t a great show, but it wasn’t boring. Plenty of fun to be had and the lads do enjoy stepping back to a time once again. A damn fun review. As always, thanks for listening. Hope you guys enjoy the show.
